Introduction

I teach technology and a digital yearbook class at The Rice School/La Escuela Rice in Houston, TX. My hope is that students will learn to use technology as a powerful tool in their daily lives.

Teaching is guided by the Texas technology goals and objectives. The focus of these objectives as outlined by the state of Texas (the TEKS) is problem solving using technology skills. We have short class-work activities to learn the skills and then the students will have a major project where they apply the skills they learn. Students work alone and they also work in groups. So I have my students solve real life problems using these technology skills. A couple of real life projects we will do are designing the 8th grade end of the year t-shirts and doing newsletters for classroom teachers throughout the school.
