The Pygmy Killer Whale

The Pygmy Killer Whale lives offshore of the Gulf of Mexico.

The Pygmy Whale eats squid, octopus, fish, and sometimes other mammals.

The Killer Whale is usually grayish black, but also brownish gray, and black on the back with white underneath the body. It is 7-8 ft. long and weighs 240-375 lbs. They have tall dorsal fins, long flippers, no beak, white lips, rounded head, and a pale grayish W on chest.

The Pygmy Killer Whale travels in groups of 15-25, sometimes even a hundred.

The threats to the Pygmy Killer Whale are entanglement in fish nets. It may be difficult to approach and is known to avoid boats. It is a lively swimmer and it often strands. Also it has been spotted breaching. Growling sounds may be heard above the surface.
