Lab Members

Dr. Erik Sedlak

Post-Doctoral Fellow (2007-Present)

Erik received his PhD from P.J.Safarik Kosice, Slovakia. He is working on biophysical characterization of the copper binding proteins ceruloplasmin, Fet3p, and CopC.

Michael Perham

Graduate Student, Department of Chemistry
(4th year)

Mike, a PhD candidate in the Chemistry Department, graduated Phi Beta Kappa from The University of Texas at Austin (2000). He works on the folding properties of VlsE and hmCpn10 in cell-like environments and the folding/assembly pathway of of the hmCpn10 heptamer. He homebrews for fun.

Faiza Hussain

Graduate Student, Department of Biochemistry & Cell Biology
(3rd year)

Faiza graduated from University of Houston in 2005 with a bachelors in Biophysical & Biochemical Sciences. Her project focuses on the biophysical characterization of the bacterial copper chaperone, CopZ, and its human homolog, Atox1. She is an avid reader of classical Eastern and Western literature and as a result, has developed a penchant for painting with words.

David Culbertson

Graduate Student, Department of Biochemistry & Cell Biology
(3rd year)

David, originally from Bordeaux, France, is a 2nd year student in our lab. He graduated from Georgia Tech with a B.S. in Chemistry/Biochemistry. His current research focuses on the role of heme in the folding process of sperm whale myoglobin. In his free time, he enjoys travelling, listening to music, going out with friends and building things.

Loren Stagg

Graduate Student, Department of Biochemistry & Cell Biology
(3rd year)

Loren, originally from Kinder, LA, graduated with a B.S. in Biology &
Chemistry from Louisiana College in 2004. His current project involves investigating the folding of Desulfovibrio desulfuricans flavodoxin as well as evaluating the effects of crowding agents on protein folding. Loren is somewhat of a sports fanatic and is a die-hard LSU football and St. Louis Cardinals fan.

Agustina Rodriguez-Granillo

Graduate Student, Department of Biochemistry & Cell Biology
(2nd year)

Agustina, originally from Buenos Aires, Argentina, graduated from
Buenos Aires University in 2006 with a B.S./M.S. in Biology/Molecular
Biology. Her current project focuses on the biophysical
characterization of the Wilson’s disease protein. She hates to cook
and loves to travel around the world.
